APS premade pouch and bag filling machines from Autopac Systems
An APS premade pouch machine takes ready-made pouches from a magazine, opens them, fills them and seals them automatically. It is the best way to pack premium stand-up pouches, zipper bags and spouted pouches that look great on shelf, without the labour of hand filling.
You may also hear them called doypack machines, pouch fillers, bag-given packing machines or premade bag packing machines. Autopac Systems supplies, installs and services the full APS premade pouch range across Australia, from compact single-station machines for start-ups to twin-lane machines and heavy-duty systems for bulk bags up to 10 kg.
How a premade pouch machine works
Each pouch moves through a sequence of stations, with the filler and sealer working in step:
Load – empty pouches are stacked in the bag magazine.
Pick and grip – a vacuum arm picks one pouch and passes it to the grippers, which hold it by the edges.
Open – the zipper (if fitted) is opened and suction cups pull the mouth of the pouch open.
Fill – the machine signals the weigher, auger or pump, which drops a measured dose into the open pouch.
Seal – heated jaws seal the top of the pouch.
Discharge – the finished pouch drops onto the takeaway conveyor.
Premade pouch cycle · 6 stations
Built-in checks stop waste: if no pouch is picked up, or a pouch fails to open, the machine will not fill or seal it, so the pouch can be reused.
Pouch and bag styles
Because the pouches arrive ready-made, you can use premium formats that are difficult or impossible to make on a form fill seal machine:
| Pouch style | What it is | Typically used for |
|---|---|---|
| Stand-up pouch ( doypack ) | Bottom gusset so the pouch stands on shelf | Snacks, coffee, granola, pet treats |
| Zipper pouch | Stand-up or flat pouch with a resealable zip, opened automatically before filling | Dried fruit, nuts, confectionery |
| Flat-bottom (box) pouch | Eight-side seal with a square base, very stable on shelf | Premium coffee, protein powder, pet food |
| Pillow and flat pouches | Three- or four -side sealed flat bags | Spices, samples, hardware |
| Spout pouch | Pouch with a fitted spout and cap | Sauces, purees, liquid detergents |
Filling and dosing options
The filler is matched to your product, and changing fillers lets one pouch machine pack solids, powders and liquids:
| Filler | Best for |
|---|---|
| Multihead weigher | Snacks, confectionery, nuts and other mixed or irregular pieces |
| Linear weigher | Free-flowing granules such as rice, sugar, granola and seeds |
| Auger filler | Fine powders such as flour, milk powder, protein and spices |
| Volumetric cup filler | Uniform, free-flowing granules |
| Piston or pump filler | Liquids, sauces and thick pastes |
Complete systems include the infeed elevator or conveyor, the filler, the pouch machine and a takeaway conveyor, all controlled from one touchscreen.
What you can pack
APS premade pouch machines suit products where shelf appeal and resealability matter, including:
Snacks and confectionery – chips, lollies, chocolate and trail mix
Breakfast foods – granola, muesli and cereals
Coffee and tea – beans, ground coffee and loose-leaf tea
Nuts and dried fruit
Powders – protein, supplements, milk powder, flour and spices
Pet food and treats
Sauces and liquids – in spout pouches
Bulk products – flour, feed, seed and fertiliser in bags up to 10 kg
Non-food – detergents, hardware and garden products
Premade pouch or VFFS?
Choose a premade pouch machine when the look of the pack matters as much as the cost per bag.
Choose a premade pouch machine for stand-up, zipper, flat-bottom, spout pouches, for shorter runs with frequent changes of bag size or design, and when you want premium retail presentation.
Choose an APS VFFS machine for high volumes of pillow or gusseted bags, where making the bag from roll film gives the lowest cost per pack and higher speeds.
Autopac Systems supplies both, so we'll recommend whichever suits your product, volume and budget.
The APS PAPS range
The PAPS range runs from compact single-station pouch machines to twin-lane and heavy-duty bulk bag systems. All models are built from 304 stainless steel (316 available) and use a Mitsubishi PLC with a touchscreen. A safety door stops the machine when opened, and an electric motor adjusts the gripper width at the touch of a button.
| Model | Pouch width (mm) | Pouch length (mm) | Speed (pouches/min) | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PAPS1 | 70–280 | 80–300 | 12– 20 | Small retail pouches and start-up production |
| PAPS2 | 70–280 | 80–400 | 12– 20 | Taller stand-up and zipper pouches |
| PAPS3 | 70–330 | 80–440 | 12– 20 | Larger family and bulk-retail pouches |
| PAPS-T | 127–254 | 127–305 | Up to 30 (both lanes) | Twin-lane output for higher volumes |
Speeds depend on the product, fill weight and filler.
